Covid-19: Gabon maintains state of health emergency

On the proposal of the Minister of Health, Dr Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong, the Council of Ministers, of December 10, 2020, ratified the bill extending the health measures for the prevention, fight and response against Covid-19.

The quarterly report for September, October and November of the health response against Covid-19 in Gabon, presented on December 9, 2020 by the Technical Commission of the Steering Committee of the monitoring and response plan against the Coronavirus epidemic ( Copil), revealed a slightly increasing epidemiological situation, with an increase of 22% of positive cases for the month of November alone against 10% for the months of September and October. To date, out of 322,361 samples taken, Gabon has 9,278 positive cases, 9,155 cases of cure and 62 cases of death.

“If the response strategy has made it possible to stabilize the evolution curve of this pandemic, that which we experienced during the first phase, the fact remains that the data of the last 3 months have led to new cases of admission, resuscitation and death. This requires maintaining the measures taken in order to prevent a second outbreak of the epidemic in Gabon “, explained Prof Romain Tchoua, head of the Copil technical commission.

Thus, are the health prevention measures to fight and respond to Covid-19, in accordance with Law No. 003/2020 of May 11, 2020 setting out the measures for the prevention, fight and response against health disasters, are they? extended. The government is also asking the population to be extra vigilant.
